Lonestar HIM Training: Week 4

The past week of training went really well in general.  I woke up with an aching shoulder on Monday morning, so I skipped swimming Tuesday morning, and then the stormy Saturday morning kept that swim out of the picture as well.  Other than that I hit all of my workouts, with only a couple of tweaks here and there.  When I wrote out my training plan I really wasn’t sure what I wanted, and planned on keeping it as a loose guideline, and that’s definitely the way it’s working thus far.  Especially in regards to running.  I’m still trying to ease myself back into higher mileage without going overboard (aka reinjuring, or hurting something new).

Monday: planned rest

Tuesday: 1 hour on the trainer

Wednesday: Planned rest

Thursday: 2000 m swim, 10 minutes on the dreadmill, 20 minutes on the elliptical, followed by some abs

Friday: Another planned rest day

Saturday: planned 2.5 hour ride had to be broken up so I could move stuff into storage, so I did 1.5 hours in the morning, and another hour when I got home

Sunday: 4.12 mile run (10:52 avg pace)  My legs felt really tired from the 2.5 hours on the bike Saturday, so it was a little bit of a struggle to get through the full distance.  But, it is my longest run without walk breaks since I hurt my foot back in September.  Any progress is good!

Totals:
Swim: 2000m
Bike: 3.5 hours
Run: 5.05 miles + 2 miles on the elliptical
Strength: 1 day of ab work

By today, my shoulder is feeling pretty much back to 100%.  My arms are really freaking.  I’m double jointed in my thumbs (I can bend them all the way back until they touch the back of my arm), my elbows go way past where they should, and my shoulders just randomly pop out of joint (and I can pop my shoulder blades out like chicken wings!).  Seriously freakish arms people.  So every once in awhile, one of the shoulders decides to bother me.  I have no clue what causes it.  It’s happened my entire life.  I wake up with it hurting, and about a week later it’ll go away.  Something in my rotator cuff gets pissed off I guess.  Annoying, but not too big of a deal.  I should be back to full swimming this week (Yay!).  Still totally loving the swim team!
